Decisions: Starbuck moves on

Starbuck is so much fun, that it was a difficult decision to send him away. For us he has proved very reliable and very useful for towing the Austin Sevens around the country. But he is very large and takes a lot of room in the shed and I find working on this behemoth not as enjoyable as working in the smaller pre war cars. I realised such a large Seventies, full time 4wd automatic vehicle running on LPG fuel is wonderful to drive, but too involved when things need fixing. So the tough decision was made and Starbuck has moved on.

New Weber 32/36 DGV carburetor for the Jeep CJ

It was about time to replace the old Weber 32/36 DGV on the Ford Pinto engine in the Jeep CJ. It still worked, but the car was complicated to start because the electric choke mechanism was broken. I had replaced it with a manual conversion of sorts but starting still required some clever manipulating a manual throttle control for cold starting. There are comprehensive rebuild kits, but I decided on a new carburetor for a fresh start.

This is the Spanish version of the Weber 32/36 DGV with a manual choke.

The differences are clear: the right one is a dirty old thing and the left one is new and shiny.

here you can see this is a twin choke of 32 and 36 mm diameter.

The Air filter was very dirty and clearly overdue for replacement.

After removal I cleaned the mating surfaces and gaskets.

A little snow for the Wagoneer

Just when we thought winter weather was done, winter struck again.
Starbuck doesn't mind though.

Keep Them Rolling Weekend 2022

This weekend I was enrolled as navigator(passenger) for a run with ww2 era vehicles through local lanes and dirt roads. Weather was often wet and sometimes gloriously sunny. Our vehicle was this little  Jeep called " No Guts No Glory".
