New "Early" Ford Bronco

Here's my new Ford Bronco.
A pristine low Mileage example. Let's take it out for a spin.

Goodbye Bronco

Today the Bronco went on its way to a new home. It sounded great driving away. Made some pictures comparing the Bronco and Landrover. I thought the Bronco was much bigger, but it wasn't by much.

Bronco final

Last drive. Still fun!

Freeing the front Uj's. It will need new ones for the long term of course.

There we are, the Bronco will go. Found a new home for it. Clearly Ford is
not my brand. Still A bit sad to drive it for the last time. The steering jammed a little. Turned out the UJ's in the front axle were binding. Got it steering again, but got wet in the rain....
Note the "new" wheels and tires. The 700.16's didn't work well, so I changed them. Drives much better on the BfG's!

Bronco Carb revisited

I expected that the carburator I used on the Bronco was too big. Also the vacuum problem returned, so I think I can assume it was not the carb that caused the problems in the first place. Though I did find the chokeflap of the old carb flapping, so that wouldn't help I suppose. I fixed the choke by changing the broken plastic actuatorthingie with a metal one made out of part an electric connector. I also made up some new gaspets of old fashioned thick gasketpaper. So I decided to take my big Holley off and put the original Autocraft one back. The Holley can go back to the J10.I did find some vacuumleaks(again). With the new gaskets I can't find any airleaks near the carb and adaptor. Having a choke again is nice too. It runs better and I hope it stays that way now.

Permafrost? Zeumeren (anvt)

Weather was really nice. The sun was out. Just a bit of ice on the water. A good day to try out a new club. The ANVT. Turned out to be a very nice event with really friendly people. One of the good things were two routes. Blue and red. Normally blue route should be possible without a winch. Just a shame that because of frost we had earlier, the underground still seemed
frozen so the water couldn't run off, so the mud was deep everywhere. That and about a hundred vehicles with knobbly tires made both routes quite unpassable for most. Still it was good to look at the cars that tried.

A good solution for steamy windows.

A classic!

Not a classic, but still competent.

I wonder what's in those boxes, must be floats.

Yes, and Jeeps too.

Some people might not recognise this as aLandrover, but it's the pinnacle for Landieafficionado's

Even in the mud they were in a queue, What's better than queueing in a British car?..

...it can't be being stuck in a Japanese car. Abandoned!

Now that's some Dodge!

Rummaging.

Get the cable out!

The Bronco almost behaved. The engine kept running, but at take off there was another flat spot. So the carb will come off again. On the way home the powersteering ran dry so the pump started crying loudly.
Yes I know it's only a Ford.
It drives well enough without powersteering though.

Packrat-mice in the Bronco

I don't think we have packrats here(except myself)but the mice had packed an
American classic car magazine in the heater duct of the Bronco. They had
packed it tight, so no heat came through and driving in the snow was pretty
nippy....

Sleet & bog

Hoped to get some snow pictures, but there was mostly sleet for the Bronco to buck. Got sleet on the lens too. Impossible to focus. Got interesting pictures though! Even got stuck before I realised I didn't have the hubs engaged.....

Two bobtail buddies

So, the Bronco will get some use now it's running like a real vehicle again. And it has to live outside for a while too. The tires are sort of balanced. They run fune up to about 90kmh. Over that the Bronco starts prancing like a...Bronco. I was warned, but it's still a bit of a dissappointment that these new tires are worse than the very ancient "security" tires I had on the Gipsy.

Need the garage space to fix the Jeep CJ. The steering swivel bearing will come out soon. Took this picture. I think they are a good set. Strange thing about the Bronco is that it is actually bigger than it looks, Because it's so square. But if you compare the Bronco box to the CJ box it's quite a bit longer and wider.

Bronco Carb to go

The Holly in place.

All there

This is the old carburator.

The flat spot at acceleration was really annoying. Maddening would be a better word.
Movement more like a camel bounce than an equestrian stride.
I decided it was time for a change
the Carburator was prime suspect. So I changed the Autolite for a Holley I
had bought for the J10. The J10 runs on LPG all the time, so I could fit the
old carb that I kept from the earlier swap without any loss of functionality.
Fitting the new Hollley had sensational effect. Massive improvement, no flat
spot at all. Why didn't I do that earlier? It's a bit big at 600cfm and in
theory that could be a disadvantage at "pickup". But it seems to work well
so far. I'll try this for a while and maybe get the correct 500cfm
carburator later.
Meanwhile driving the Bronco now is wonderful. Bliss! Even comfortable!

The Bronco: Wheels and the hardtop painted.

The Bronco is running fine again. The new tires are balanced and the wheels
painted. Even the other Bronco seems pleased...

Our green Bronco seems to fit this description well. Except it's not really a horse:
Bronco, or bronc, is a term used in the United States and Canada to refer to
an untrained horse or one that habitually bucks. It may refer to a feral horse that has lived in the wild its entire life, but is also used to refer to domestic horses not yet fully trained to saddle, and hence prone to unpredictable behavior, particularly bucking.

Yes, the bucking bit sounds like my Bronco....

New tires for the Bronco

Today I visited Bram van Buren Jeeps for some new tires. Bram has a lot of
interesting vehicles in his workshops. Mostly Jeeps and Landrovers: M38a1,
MB and even two nice Wagons, but also a Commando and a Dodge Command car.
Forgot my camera, so I only took a few pictures with my telephone. The tires
work well. They are 7.00/16 military tires. They still need some balancing.
On the way home the heater valve sprang a leak and the HEI distributor came
loose. I limped home and fixed the distributor and the leak. It seems ok
now. I just hope there was no permanent damage.

Bronco Hardtop

Saturday I collected the hardtop for the Bronco. It's still in Camo. So is it going to be green or tan??
